August 2004 Update.

Malindi, Kenya

2 RECORDS IN 2 DAYS

Neptune and Eclare have moved to Ngomeni, to fish the same area that produced the record Yellowfin Tuna last season. The fish were in exactly the same place, just in larger numbers. On Monday 9th August Richard Moller and Ian Craig on Eclare caught an amazing 1,066 kilos of Yellowfin Tuna, this being the record for the most weight of fish caught in 1 day, with largest single fish of 78 kgs. Neptune caught the largest fish of the day of 84 kgs.

On Tuesday 10th August Eclare was fished by Joss de Kock, Keith van der Spuy with his 2 sons Greg and Jason. Greg van der Spuy 16 years old, managed to break the existing All Tackle Record with a massive Yellowfin Tuna of 99.5 kgs. This was of 3 fish hooked together, one was lost early on in the fight and the third being lost after a 2 hour fight. A total weight of 800 kilos of fish caught for the day with larger fish been seen and lost. These fish stayed around till late September last season, lets hope they do the same this season!!

Snow Goose has been fishing the Watamu banks and have released 2 Bull Sharks in 4 days, as well as a good mixed bag of Tuna, Wahoo and Kingfish.

Look forward to seeing you all.

Best Regards
Angus

March 2004 Update.

Poronui Ranch, North Island, New Zealand

We are still here - contrary to what you may have seen or heard, the North Island of New Zealand has not washed away!.

In fact, it has been business as usual for most districts. Although the effects of the February rain was catastrophic for the lower part of the Island and the township of Turangi, Poronui missed most of the really destructive storms and has suffered little physical damage. The high river flows of last month caused a fair amount of frustration for our guests and guides, but after a week of settled weather streams are returning to normal. Flows are high for this time of year but the fishing has been excellent - as evidenced by the photo!

The forecast is for fine weather through March and into April. In fact, April is traditionally our driest and most settled month. Where we have been faced with the problem of very low, gin-clear water in the past, the prospects for late season fishing this year are excellent. You can be assured the trout did not see too many flies through February!

Late season rates and long stay packages apply at this time of year, which is an added incentive for those contemplating a visit. Every cloud has a silver lining, and correspondingly the fishing March/April this year promises to be some of the best we have seen all season.
